Hat-trick helps Lacken claim Intermediate title

Lacken 3-10 Cootehilll 1-09 A superb hattrick by Niall McKiernan helped Lacken claim the Intermediate Football Championship title in a memorable final at Breffni park on Saturday evening. Having shared the spoils 1-10 a piece last time out, Cootehill put in a huge effort had no answer to Lacken's fire power up front, most notably McKiernan who scored 3-3 in total. Appropriately enough he scored the final point of the game - one of two points he scored in injury time when the game was no longer a contest. Cootehill Celtic enjoyed periods of dominance throughout this high quality match, but wayward shooting contributed to their downfall. A combination of more accurate marksmanship and a greater physicality secured Lacken their fourth Intermdiate title. For a full match report and reaction, see this week's Anglo-Celt newspaper.
