Arva house destroyed by fire

A two storey house on the outskirts of Arva was destroyed by fire on Thursday yesterday afternoon. Three units of the fire bridges from Cavan and Killeshandra rushed to the scene when they were alerted at 3.30pm. By the time they arrived the house was well lit. Cavan Chief Fire Oficer, Noel Burke, confirmed to the Anglo Celt that the fire began in the hot press and quickly spread through the roof. The fire was quickly brought under control, he added. A garda spokesman said, "the house was unoccupied at the time of the breakout as the owner was looking at cattle." The owner of the two storey house at Gurteen about two miles from Arva on the Ballinagh Road, lived alone.
