Police seized cannabis worth £175,000 in Derrylin house searches
A 37-year-old man is currently being held in custody for questioning in relation to major drugs finds at number of properties just across the border in Derrylin. Arrested under the Misuse of Drugs legislation and being questioned at Enniskillen Police Station, its follows on from a number of searches of properties in the Derrylin area where PSNI officers found 93 cannabis plants worth £46,000 at a house on the Molly Road, between Derrylin and Kinawley. Follow up searches of other houses, on Corratistune Road outside Derrylin and at a house in Enniskillen yielded further discoveries. The operation was led by officers from the Fermanagh Crime Team, supported by colleagues from the Crime Operations Branch and Tactical Support Group. Inspector Roy Robinson, the PSNI's sector commander for the area, said the searches followed several months of investigations where the police focused on people they suspected were dealing drugs, including cannabis. "Approximately £175,000 worth of drugs have been recovered", adding, "it is clear from the response officers received while carrying out these operations that people in the areas were very supportive of police action. I want to thank them, and the wider Fermanagh community, for their continued support in dealing with what are potentially dangerous drugs," said Inspector Robinson. Police believe the cannabis was being produced to be sold locally and that the cultivation of the plants had been taking place for some time and a spokesman appealed to people living in rural areas to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity at houses they know to have been vacant for a time.
