Cavan County Council maintains its rates for 2013

Cavan County Council is presenting its budget for 2013 to elected members at a special budget meeting taking place around now. It's proposed that the commercial rate be kept at 56.85 - the same rate that has pertained since 2008 and well below the national average. The council's expenditure for the year ahead is budgeted to be €56,905,154 - down almost €1.9m on 2012 or over three per cent. Road grants are down over €1.3m but with the level of central government funding not known, the council expects funding to be at least 10% down on 2012 levels. Provision for doubtful payment of rates and water waste charges was also increased, with an expected fall in income from waste water. Slight reductions will apply in expenditure on fire services, maintenance of the council's housing stock and library services. The full income for Cavan County Council is projected at €29,270,447 for 2013. Full detailed report from the budget meeting and reaction from elected representatives, see next week's Anglo-Celt.
