Carnival leader Katie Richardson.

Roll up, roll up for the Café Sessions

A firm favourite with the Café Sessions crowd, ‘Katie & The Carnival’ return to Chapter 1 this evening (Thursday, April 11) for what should be a great gig.

Organisers - Blue Valentines - are expecting a lot of interest as Katie Richardson hasn’t rolled the Carnival into Cavan Town in quite a while.

Intriguingly described as the 'love child of Lou Reed and Darlene Love' by one critic, Katie and the Carnival’s music is soulful, dark and harmony-driven with influences from indie, folk, rock, pop and torch song. Having supported Duke Special on some of his Irish tour dates in 2012 Katie is currently recording and preparing to release new material later this year. Known for her engaging and creative live performances you never know what you might see at a ‘Katie and the Carnival’ gig - dancing unicorns, TV tents, samba drummers? Anything is possible...

Katie has worked with the likes of Foy Vance and has supported Van Morrison, Jesca hoop, Thomas Truax and Emmy the Great amongst others. 2013 sees Katie launch lots of new material that she will be touring around the UK and Europe.

Lily Burke provides support for Thursday’s session. LiLy - aka Celine Burke - began writing and demoing for her debut album with big brother and renowned singer songwriter Ken Burke at the helm. The album titled ‘Fighting Fit’ was recorded with the help of some fine musicians, one of which was Mark Geary who donated his glorious harmonies to the track ‘Both Sleeves’.

As always the gig gets underway at 8pm at Chapter 1.
