Conor Kelly plays Chapter 1 tonight.

Chapter and verse

A raucous, ferociously talented poet-come-pianist who doesn’t shy away from controversial lyrics is back to thrill the audience at Cafe Sessions this week.

Derry’s Connor Kelly has been performing since the tender age of 15, and in that time the 23-year-old has developed into one of the most exciting artists to come out of the North.

The release of his album ‘Damian’ with the band ‘The Red Medicine’, at just 19 confirmed his musical promise and was received warmly. Check it out here:

Kelly has released his first solo work ‘Tell Me That We’re Human’, a seven track album that includes the single ‘Tell Me That We’re Human’ which is quickly becoming his signature song.

His styles change from track to track, with music hall piano melodies to punk poetry rants to Bowie-esque pop tunes. Kelly is also an accomplished poet and has been performing poetry around Ireland since 2009.

He has had a long relationship with the poetic act ‘The Poetry Chicks’ with whom he has performed in both Belturbet and most memorably, the first ever Cafe Sessions. Kelly’s act often mixes up poetry and music in a way that is distinctly Irish, yet very new.

After touring his new album ‘Tell Me That We’re Human’ he hopes to be back in the studio for the next installment!

Support comes from Áine Cahill, a young singer-songwriter and keyboard player. Don’t miss Conor and Áine when they come to Chapter 1 on Thursday, April 25 at 8pm.
