Search at house of murdered former Garda ends without body

The search at the house of murdered former Garda John Kerins for the body of missing man Gerry Daly ended this afternoon without any recovery.

Gardaí today finished digging up the back patio in Kerins' Cornaveagh home - where he was murdered last November. At the time of his death Kerins was a known associate of drug-dealers and had INLA connections.

It had been thought that Kerins was hiding the buried body of Daly for the vicious gang at his home but that particular theory has now been discarded.

'We’ve stopped digging and found nothing,' said Bailieborough Superintedent Gerry O’Brien. 'We’re obliged to investigate every lead but it changes nothing, we investigate as usual and will be carrying out searches and investigating as usual, as we have always been.'
