€50m allocation for rural road repairs announced

The Government has announced that a further €50 million is allocated for repair of regional and local road surfaces nationwide across the country.

Fine Gael TD for Cavan and Monaghan, Deputy Joe o'Reilly welcomed the news from Minister for Transport, Leo Varadkar TD, earlier to day.

“I am delighted to hear of the further allocation of €50 million for repairs and restoration of regional and local roads. It is a welcome boost for the many local and regional roads around Cavan and Monaghan”, Deputy O’Reilly said.

The funding will be used by Cavan and Monaghan Council’s for restoration and repair of road pavements (surfaces as opposed to footpaths) and comes on top of a €350 million allocation to pavement works early in 2013.

“Last Winter was a particularly harsh one and it has taken its toll on our roads. Although our Public finances are severely strained, I am happy that the Minister has decided to allocate funding to alleviate this problem” concluded the Deputy.
