Deputy Brendan Smith welcomed the news.

St Bricin’s set to get new classrooms

St Bricin’s College is set to benefit from the construction of four new classrooms it emerged after the Department of Education and Skills allocated funding.

The development will see students at the Belturbet school moved into new facilities and away from older prefab units located away from the main building.

Fianna Fail Cavan-Monaghan Deputy Brendan Smith complimented the Cavan/Monaghan Education and Training Board (formerly the VEC) on their successful applications and stated these new facilities will enhance the school’s current accommodation. He paid tribute to the principal, the Education and Training Board CEO and officials on their work in preparing a detailed and successful application.
In relation to the most recent announcement, he said at St Bricin’s “over the past seven or eight years there has been a substantial investment in upgrading and modernising the accommodation and facilities” which has been of great benefit to all the students and staff.

Wonderful day
Local Fine Gael TD Deputy Joe O’Reilly also welcomed the news as a “wonderful day for the school”.
“I was delighted to learn that St Bricin’s were awarded funding for four new classrooms.
“I know that the school made a very strong case to the Department last year and I would like to pay tribute to the school Principal Mary Sheridan, outgoing CEO, Mr Colm McEvoy and new CEO, Martin O’Brien, Ms Berni Power and all the supporting staff in the VEC for all their hard work on the application.”
It follows last week’s announcement that three other schools in both Cavan and Monaghan are also set to receive new classrooms.
Education Minister Ruairi Quinn made the announcement as part of the Additional Accommodation and Emergency Works Scheme.
Shercock National School will get one mainstream classroom and one Learning Support room, while St Mogue’s in Bawnboy is to receive two mainstream classrooms.
Fine Gael representative for the Shercock area, Cllr John O’Hare expressed his delight at the news, saying: “It will make a huge difference to the students, staff and parents of the school.”
In neighobouring Monaghan meanwhile, Inver College in Carrickmacross will get two classrooms, plus a boiler and plant room along with a machine and prep room.
