Cavan man remanded in custody on drugs charge

A Mountnugent man arrested just over a week ago following a major drugs seizure by gardai in Oldcastle has been remanded in custody to appear again before the courts later this month, August 19.

Jason Flynn (31), with an address at Mount Prospect, Mountnugent was one of two men arrested at an address in the Cavan-Meath border town on August 3 last.
Flynn was detained as part of the planned, joint operation involving the Garda National Drug Unit, the Garda Organised Crime Unit, and Customs Drug Enforcement Officers, an investigation which yielded the discovery of 120kgs of cannabis herb. According to Gardaí the drugs seized had an estimated street value in the region of €2.4 million.
Flynn was questioned at Kells Garda Station and subsequently charged with possession of cannabis and possession of the drug for sale or supply at Newcastle, Oldcastle.

He appeared before a special sitting of Trim District Court from which he was remanded in custody to appear at the Court of Criminal Justice on Monday last.
He has now been remanded in custody once again, but with consent to bail and is due to appear before Cloverhill Court on August 19.
A second man arrested at the time, a 50-year-old was released and a file is currently being prepared for the DPP.
