Cootehill farm makes €15k per acre

A 36-acre farm with a derelict dwelling in the Cootehill area sold for €560,000 following a public auction last Thursday, May 9, in the Errigal Country House Hotel.

The price, achieved by auctioneer Eamon Gaffney, represents an average of €15,550 per acre. The property at Tonyhull, Canningstown, also included a four-bay slatted shed. Located along the Cootehill-Canningstown Road, the lands were described as being well-fenced, top-quality lands, laid out in nice-sized divisions with water and ESB laid on. The house, while in need of total refurbishment, should be eligible for grants. Mr Gaffney said the property was ideal for those wishing to extend their holding or use as a start-up entity. He also highlighted the “huge interest” that was evident in the run up to auction day.

“The land itself has an ideal roadside location, which is convenient for those wishing to use it as an overstock to their farm,” he said.

“It’s also attractive to non farming interests wishing to invest.”
