As part of the Garda district and station rationalisation programme for 2013, Ballyconnell Garda District will be amalgamated with Cavan Garda District from midnight on Sunday, November 10.
As part of this programme, Redhills Garda Station will close on the same date and will be policed from Belturbet Garda Station. Garda Stations at Ballyconnell, Belturbet, Killeshandra, Swanlinbar, Blacklion and Dowra will continue to be policed as at present.
The new amalgamated district will be known as Cavan Garda District and will be under the management of Superintendent Jimmy Coen at Cavan District Headquarters.
All persons, business organisations, community and sporting groups in the above mentioned sub districts will continue to do their policing business with their local Garda stations.

Reassurance
“I would like to reassure the communities residing in the Ballyconnell district that the same level of policing will continue to operate. If anybody or community groups have any concerns, they should contact the local gardai and the matter will be dealt with at superintendent level at Cavan,” said Supt Coen.
“On the same date, Garda Sean Dorris from Redhills Garda Station will be transferring to Belturbet Garda Station and Redhills Sub District will be subsumed in its entirety into the Sub District of Belturbet and all policing and patrols of that area will be carried out from Belturbet, in addition the Cavan operational resources.
“The district amalgamation will continue to support our community policing philosophy through the clustering of services at policing hubs. The centralisation of services will facilitate the introduction of an enhanced grid patrolling system that will be operational and intelligence led,” he said.
