Carrick-on-Shannon 400 celebrations culminate with free open air event
The year-long celebrations marking Carrick-on-Shannon’s 400th anniversary came to a close on Saturday November 16 with a stunning free open air event featuring street theatre, aerial dance and a large-scale digital display covering the entire front of The Dock in Carrick on Shannon.
The digital production entitled ‘A Shannon Story’ was a half-hour montage of animation and street theatre which was projected onto the multi-purpose arts centre, The Dock. It comprised of beautiful imagery and entertaining high jinks and escapades, and also featured mesmerising aerial dance from Paperdolls Dance Company. ‘A Shannon Story’ was one of the first productions in Ireland to combine conventional street theatre and digital projection into one amazing show.
The production was made possible through the sponsorship of Cold Chon Ltd and was presented on the night by Buí Bolg Street Theatre Company and Avtek Productions.
Speaking after the event, Sinead Mc Dermott, Leitrim Tourism officer said “This year has been exceptional with festivals and activities delivered for all to enjoy. We have had everything from sporting events, to music and cultural events. There really was something for everyone in Carrick-on-Shannon this year. This final event was spectacular and captured the creativity, excitement and enthusiasm which have been the hallmarks of our yearlong celebrations. It was a fabulous event and we have received fantastic feedback from those who attended”.
