Antibiotic awareness event at cavan general

The fourth annual antibiotic awareness day will be held in the main foyer in Cavan General Hospital on Friday, November 21, from 10am-2pm.
Information will be provided to the public and staff by the Infection Prevention and Control team on prudent antibiotic use. Dr Cathal Collins, consultant microbiologist and Diana Hogan-Murphy, antimicrobial pharmacist, will be available to answer any questions and provide advice.
Dr Collins stated: “It is important to use antibiotics appropriately to slow down the development of antibiotic resistance and to reduce healthcare associated infections, which will ultimately lead to improved patient outcomes.”
He also emphasised that antibiotics are only effective against bacterial infections and are not effective against common colds, which are caused by viruses. Quizzes, information leaflets and prizes will be provided on the day, which is promised to be fun, interactive and educational.
