Garda urge vigilance following car breakins

Gardaí in Cavan are warning locals not to leave valuable items in cars over New Year’s after four car break-ins were reported over Christmas.
On Monday, December 22, at around 4.30pm, a car was broken into at Lakeland Retail Park and a laptop was stolen. There was no CCTV footage and gardaí in Cavan Town are appealing for information and urging people to be vigilant.
“We cannot stress enough for people not to risk being victims of theft or car break-ins by leaving items or worth in cars unattended,” said a local Garda spokesperson.
“We would urge people to keep belongings, where possible, on their person rather than lying idle in cars for opportunistic thieves, we have seen several break-ins and thefts of valuables over Christmas and would warn people not to do the same over the New Year period.”
Separately, two men were arrested when in connection to an alleged break-in of two cars and assault at the back of the Imperial on 3.30am on December 26.
One of those men has been charged with assault and production of a weapon during the course of a dispute.
On December 27, at some time between 5-8pm, a car was broken into in Ballinagh on the Dublin Road where a window was smashed in and a handbag and a mobile was stolen.
