Water charge deadline for registration

Despite a deadline of midnight tonight looming for those wishing to register their homes for water charges, there will be no penalties imposed on those who fail to do so.

In order to ensure accurate water bills are received when the first water bills are issued across Ireland in April later this year, home-owners are being encouraged to register their homes by midnight tonight, February 2, or run the potential risk of losing out on applying fo the €100 Water Conservation Grant and other concessions.

Irish Water spokeswoman Elizabeth Arnett said there will be an assumption made that those who do not confirm their details with Irish Water are part of a two-adult household so will face the standard charge of €260.

Its understood that up to 30,000 households registered with Irish Water over the weekend gone by.

Almost 850,000 homes have provided their details to Irish Water out of the estimated 1.5m customers have signed up.
