Traffic delays continue as cavan sewerage works progress

Works at Drumalee as part of the upgrade of the €20m Cavan Town Sewerage Scheme have been delayed due to a “construction challenge” encountered by workers on the scheme. Director of Services with Cavan County Council John Brannigan told the Celt yesterday (Tuesday) that, as a result, works on the Cootehill Road gravity sewer at that location will take another fortnight.

“A construction challenge has presented itself in trying to lay the new sewer through Drumalee Cross,” he confirmed.

Work progressing
Works generally are progressing well and still on schedule to be complete by mid 2015 with the new plant set to be commissioned before the year end.
Works have also commenced on the Dublin road gravity sewer (Royal School to Tractamotors) in Cavan Town and are progressing well, according to Mr Brannigan. He says it is anticipated that this work will be completed there by March 20. Works are also progressing well on the Dublin Road rising mains and should be complete by March 15. He says that works are expected to commence on College Street pumping station later this week and expect to take about three months.
“It is anticipated that the laying of new pipelines should be complete by end of May, with works on the pumping stations expected to run until end of June,” said Mr Brannigan.
Irish Water have responsibility for the project but Cavan County Council, as the local authority, is acting as their agent under a service level agreement for the operational side of the works and the delivery of the capital project. The work itself is being carried out by P&S Civil Works Ltd.
Mr Brannigan stated that P&S Civil Works Ltd continue to work with the council’s road department to ensure that traffic disruptions and inconvenience are kept to a minimum.
