Kierans murder trial latest verdict expected today

The jury in the trial of a man accused of murdering his wife has found him guilty of unlawful possession of a 12 gauge double barrel shotgun and a verdict is due later today at the Central Criminal Courts in Dublin.

Oliver Kierans (57) of Drumbannon Bailieborough in Cavan has pleaded not guilty to murdering his wife, Patricia, (54) on September 5, 2013 at the same address.

He also pleaded not guilty to unlawful possession of a 12 gauge double barrel shotgun and not guilty to possession of the same shotgun with intent to endanger life.

Yesterday, the jury of five women and seven men returned a unanimous verdict of guilty for the unlawful possession of a shotgun after more than five hours deliberating.

The judge thanked the jury asking them to return today for further deliberations. Mr Kierans was not in court yesterday due to illness.
