Board asks clubs for bailout

The GAA clubs of Cavan have been asked to bail-out the Cavan county board after it emerged that the board owe €420,000 to creditors and have a serious cash flow problem.

Repayments on Kingspan Breffni Park will run to €21,500 per month in 2015 and the board proposed at a meeting on July 6 that clubs either continue with the current levy of €2,400 per club, per year for another 15 years or increase it to €5,000 per club, per year over five years.
However, delegates sought time to confer with their own club committees and at a specially-convened meeting last Monday, did not agree to either proposal, with the result that a new task force of GAA people from business and banking backgrounds has been formed to address the issue.
They are expected to report back in September.
