Zero IDA local site visits in first nine-months of 2015

Co Cavan has lain claim to the unenviable title as the only county to have attracted no IDA sponsored visits from interested potential foreign investors in the first nine-months of this year, according to new and up-to-date figures obtained by The Anglo-Celt.
The agency with responsibility for securing new investment from overseas stated it markets Ireland on a regional basis, “not a county-by-county basis”, and the site visit figures “do not fully measure” the marketing of Ireland’s FDI offering.
In 2014 there was one solitary visit to the Cavan. This compares with Dublin who came out on top with 96 visits, and Cork, Limerick and Waterford all with 19 visits each.
By comparison, in Monaghan, which was the only county to attain no IDA sponsored FDI visits last year, has had two up to the end of the third quarter of 2015. Both visits it is understood came as a result of the IDA marketing the site vacated by headphone manufacturing giant Bose, who shut down its operations in Carrickmacross last May with the loss of 140 jobs. In relation to the Carrickmacross site, the IDA has told the Celt that they have met with the owners of the BOSE property where “proactive engagement” has taken place regarding “the common objective of ensuring that the property is positioned for any potential future project led demand for a property solution where the BOSE facility may be suitable.”
