Batten-down-the-hatches weather warning

Met Eireann has issued a severe weather warning for the region, with potentially damaging gusts of up to 100kmph set to hit the county later tonight and tomorrow, Thursday, November 12.

The status yellow warning was issued for Munster, Leinster, and counties Cavan, Monaghan and Roscommon earlier today.

A status orange wind warning has been issued for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo. Southerly winds, later veering southwest then west, with mean speeds of 55 to 80 km/h, will gust between 100 and 120 km/h.

Winds will be strongest near coastal areas.

According to Met Eireann, the weather will turn much colder on Thursday night when temperatures will drop down to between two and four degrees.

Heavy showers are also expected to blow inland during the day.

Met Eireann's forecast looking ahead sees Friday delivering a cold and blustery day,also with widespread showers, and some of hail or thunder, particularly in the west and northwest.

It’s expected to be cold for a time on Friday night too, but turning milder overnight as winds back southwest to south by morning.

The latest indications suggest it will remain on the cool side in Ulster for the weekend, with unsettled conditions and occasional spells of rain expected to continue into next week.
