Name: Finbarr Filan

Occupation: Business owner, former developer

Marital Status: Married, three children

Priorities:

A qualified Manufacturing Engineer who has worked in and managed in manufacturing, retail and construction, in 2003 Mr Filan started a property development company with his pop-star brother Shane, which experienced the highs and the lows of the last seven years.

He took over a loss making Centra store in Sligo in 2010 and returned it to profit. The store is now a profitable business and employs 22 people in the local community.

His journey into politics began when he was selected to be a street ambassador for Sligo Purple Flag. He is now Chairman of the Sligo Business Improvement District and also holds council membership with Sligo Chamber.

With keen interests in tackling rural crime, and support for town and village economic regeneration, Mr Filan welcomes the opportunity to be part of a political change.

The first time election candidate told The Anglo-Celt on a recent visit to the county: “Renua is a party for change. We need change and I would welcome the opportunity to be part of and help lead this change,” he said.

“I believe I have the character, personality, ability and life experience to win a seat for Renua in Sligo-Leitrim-West Cavan-South Donegal.”
