Alice Cooper

Godfather of Shock Rock loves The Strypes

The infamous 'Godfather of Shock Rock', Alice Cooper has added his name to the illustrious and growing list of music industry superstars to express their admiration for Cavan four-piece The Strypes.

In a Pre-Grammy Award Ceremony Gala Red Carpet interview, the American singer, songwriter, musician, radio DJ and occasional actor, whose career spans five decades, was asked if he had any favourite albums recently.

Having earlier discussed the late Ian 'Lemmy' Kilmister of Motorhead, his solo career and up-coming tour, as well as his latest music project, a super-group called 'Hollywood Vampires' with actor Johnny Depp, Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney, and Foo Fighters singer Dave Grohl, Cooper opens up about what music has impressed him most recently.

Grohl is already a vocal supporter of The Strypes' music, having spoke glowingly about them in an 2013 chat show interview with Elton John, who signed Ross, Josh, Evan and Pete to his Rocket Music Management company.

The band most recently released Little Victories in August last year, charting in the Top 100 in Ireland, the UK, France and the Netherlands.

Now it seems that Cooper is getting in on the act too, with the 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee initially giving nothing away, and with a shrug of his shoulders saying: “Meh!... You know albums, its so hard to albums any more.”

However, with a knowing nod, the Poison frontman continues, commenting: “There's a band called The Strypes... from Ireland. Eighteen year old kids... that sound like The Yardbirds and The Small Faces combined.... and, they didn't get nominated for anything but its the best record I've heard all year,” he says, ending with a chuckle.

As the interviewer continues to engage Cooper, telling him he'll “have to check them out”, Cooper nods his head again approvingly before moving to end the interview. But not before adding: “Really... they're from Ireland... great!”.
