Cavan teen rockers The Strypes from left Ross Farrelly, Evan Walsh, Pete O'Hanlon and Josh McClorey meet up with some of their fans in Multisound, Cavan, in August 2015.

New Strypes album 'in the bag' - manager

Christmas has come early for Strypes’ fans with news that their latest studio offering is “in the bag” and will be released in late-Spring to early-Summer.

The news comes as the Ross, Josh, Pete and Evan prepare to play what has become a sort of sold-out festive pilgrimage for the band, a pre-Christmas show at the Olympia Theatre, Dublin on Thursday, December 8. The same sold-out Olympia Theatre gig last year was a precursor to a busy year for the Cavan four-piece who rifled through a hectic international summer festival diary amid busy recording dates at the legendary Rockfield Studios near Monmouth.
The Welsh studio is a hallowed location where some of the world’s biggest artists from Oasis to Iggy Pop committed work to tape, including Queen for the recording of 'Bohemian Rhapsody. The new album will be the Strypes’ third following 'Little Victories’ which reached number one on various record charts.
Produced by the renowned Ethan Johns, who previously worked with the likes of Ryan Adams, Ray LaMontagne, Laura Marling and Paul McCartney, Strypes’ manager Niall Walsh told The Anglo-Celt that everyone concerned is “very happy”.
“It’s a belter. Really good. We can’t wait for people to hear it,” he added.
The Strypes meanwhile have released a highly desirable vinyl only double A sided single, with all proceeds going to the charity CanTeen Ireland.
Limited to 500 copies and available only from www.thestrypes.com, the record was recorded at Dublin’s Camden Street studios, and features festively apt '(What’s So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love & Understanding’ written by Nick Lowe and 'Down At The Radiotron’ written by Stefan Murphy, formerly of fellow Irish rockers, The Mighty Stef.
Pressed on high quality coloured vinyl, both tracks have featured in The Strypes live set in the recent past.
