Launch of the 5th Annual Run With Catherina

Catherina McKiernan was the star attraction as the fifth annual Run With Catherina launched at the Kilmore Hotel recently.

This year the run will be celebrating two very significant events in Catherina’s running history, namely winning the first of her Silver Cross Country medals on a snow covered course in Boston in 1992, 25 years ago and winning The Berlin Marathon in 1997, with the fastest ever debut marathon for a woman.
The Cornafean native dominated cross country running in the early nineties, winning silver in the World Cross Country Championships four years in succession between 1992 and 1995 in addition to claiming gold in the inaugural European Cross Country Championships in 1994.
Catherina’s success continued as she went on to win two more marathons the following year in London and Amsterdam. She returned to the European Cross Country Championships in Edinburgh in 2003, where she contributed to the Ireland Team winning Bronze.
Catherina started out her training by running around the fields at home and still runs every day. She now teaches others good running techniques through her ChiRunning Workshops.
John Donohoe of Cavan County Council gives great assistance to Annalee AC in the organising of this event each year. Liberty Insurance also offers tremendous support to this wonderful event and Annalee AC is indeed very grateful for all this support. At the event Annalee AC thanked all who supported it.
Catherina was joined by Paddy McDonald, Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, who committed The Council to their continuing support of The Run With Catherina event.
In preparation for this huge event couch to 5k coaching, supported by Cavan Sports Partnership, has been taking place at various centres around the county, including St. Patrick’s College, Cavan on Tuesdays and Thursdays 6-7pm, since early September.
Run With Catherina will have a 5k and 10k distance and will take place on October 8th at 1pm.
The amount of income raised by each one per cent increase in the local adjustment of LPT is estimated would amount to almost €45,000 for the Council, whilst a similar hike in rates could has the potential to bring in close to €135,000.
