Calling all Kilians/Cillians for world record attempt in Mullagh
Mullagh, the birthplace of St Kilan, will this weekend be inundated with the martyr's namesakes or derivatives thereof when the village attempts to break one of the most unusual World Records.
Part of the Mullagh Fair Day, the never-been-done-before World record attempt to get as many Killians/ Kilians/ Cillians/ Cilians/Caolans /Kelans etc in one place on Sunday, September 9, is almost certain to be a success.
Even if your surname is some variation of the Killian name, Mullagh wants you to take part.
Attendees for the record attempt are simply asked to bring with them passport, driving licence or birth certificate on the day as proof of their validity, with registration from 1pm and record attempt taking place at 3pm.
The event is being staged in honour of Mullagh's patron, and assistant organiser and local councillor Shane P O'Reilly told The Anglo-Celt: “I see no more fitting way to commemorate the legacy of a man whose influence has stretched half-ways across Europe than to try and get every person named after him come to the village of his birth.”
Cllr O'Reilly is barred from participation himself as his closest connection is having used the name Kilian for his confirmation.
But he says: “It’s a great bit of fun and it’s about putting not only St Kilian and all that he has done, but putting Mullagh and our fabulous Fair Day on the map as well.”
