Storm risk as temperatures set to remain low

Forecasters are predicting worsening weather to take grip after temperatures nosedived at the weekend, with risk of developing storm weather in the coming days.

With Storm Deirdre currently brewing out to sea, some forecasters are predicting temperatures could fall as low as -4C.

The cold-snap in recent days even cause an unseasonably early snowfall on Cuilcagh, with scatterings and hard frost reported elsewhere in the county, from Crossdoney to Bailieborough.

At midnight last night, Met Eireann registered temperatures at -2C in Bailieborough.

Its predicted that Halloween, on Wednesday, will also see freezing conditions, with lowest temperatures hitting -3C overnight into Thursday.

The national weather forecaster's outlook suggests: “Cold, but dry in many areas, with a mix of cloud and bright spells. Some patchy rain and drizzle or a few showers may occur along coasts but elsewhere a lot of dry weather. Highest temperatures generally 7 to 9 Celsius, in mostly moderate southeast breezes but fresh at times along Atlantic coasts. Cold overnight, with frost and fog patches. Patches of rain and drizzle, mainly along Atlantic coats. Minimum temperatures -1 to plus 2 C.”
