Alert as quad bikes stolen on Border

The reported theft of three quad bikes in separate incidents in as many weeks has prompted authorities on both sides of the Border to urge owners to secure their equipment from theft.

The PSNI took to social media last week to suggest that a “team of travelling criminals” could be targetting the region, after a red Honda 350 quad with a rear bale carrier was stolen from a farm in Belcoo in the early hours of Monday morning last, October 29.
“It is thought to have been loaded on to the back of a van. The owner had it blocked in with his car, so the thieves must have been very determined as well as well-prepared,” the PSNI said.
The incident, coupled with two incidents in the same region south of the Border has given rise to the suspicion that raiders are stealing equipment in the hope of making a quick sale in the pre-Christmas market.
The thefts in Cavan occurred in Dowra on October 26 last, with a further quad type vehicle lifted the previous week from a property in the Blacklion area.
Both gardaí and the PSNI are urging homeowners to check that all their equipment is secure, with anyone with any information in relation to the incidents asked to contact the relevant authorities.
Police north of the Border meanwhile are also appealing for the public's assistance after a house on the Teemore Road near Derrylin was broken into between 7:45-10 pm on October 26 last.
As a result a man had a quantity of cash stolen along with a gold watch, gold wedding ring, and a bloodstone ring stolen.
