McGrath family recipe takes a trans-hemisphere trek

Drumelis resident Felicity McGrath hits the spotlight in the final episode of the third series of Taste Like Home, which airs on RTE 1 at 19:30pm December 10. Felicity is one of twelve food lovers to feature in the returning RTE 1 series with Catherine Fulvio. In it she teaches chef Catherine how to make a seafood dish cooked in a coconut broth and served with basil and truffle mash and crisp green vegetables. The dish is a favourite of Eoin, Felicity’s son, who is now living in Melbourne with his fiancée Julz.

The show opens with Catherine meeting Felicity (aka Flick) and her husband Peter in Killykeen Forest Park in Cavan before the Tastes Like Home team take to the skies and travel to Melbourne, Australia, to meet Eoin who has lived abroad for ten years.
He initially emigrated to travel and have a holiday, but it got extended to living permanently in Melbourne. He recently got engaged to Australian, Julz. Whilst hoping to replicate Flick’s much-loved dish and bring a taste of home to Eoin, Catherine also serves up a delicious dessert, a Chocolate Tart with Rose Poached Pears.
In Melbourne Catherine visits the largest open air market in the Southern Hemisphere, the Queen Victoria Market. She also visits the Neighbours TV Show set, takes a ride on the only Tramcar Restaurant in the World, The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant and drops by The Hotel Windsor to experience their famous afternoon tea.
Felicity said of her experience: “I was thrilled at the prospect of sharing an experience with my boy, even though he’s a long way away and around less often, and so glad that we both enjoyed it immensely. Anyone with loved ones overseas should apply.”
Eoin’s experience was different with him saying, “I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Catherine and my fiancé Julz revert to fawning teenagers on the set of Neighbours, wildly excited at the prospect of spotting Dr David and Paul Robinson. I travel home quite regularly, but this was a different experience. It connected me to home in Cavan, knowing Mum and Dad were involved in the show, but also made me feel at home through having the opportunity to show Catherine and the crew around Melbourne.
This is the final episode of the TV series that returned in November for six consecutive weeks, serving up delicious recipes steeped in tradition and a flavour of incredible culture and sights from locations right across the world.
Tastes Like Home Series featuring Cavan and Melbourne aires at 19.30pm on RTE 1 on December 10.
