Attracta Doherty triathlon set of Sunday

This Sunday, the 10th annual Pink n' Gold Triathlon will get underway at Erica's Fairy Forest. Organised as a memorial to the late Attracta Doherty, the event raises much-needed funds for cancer charities in her memory.
Speaking ahead of the event, the late Attracta’s husband, Kevin Doherty, said: "This triathlon embraces the philosophy of family participation in particular and we encourage mums and dads to bring their children along and be part of our special day. Don't be discouraged by the word triathlon, as we have a category for everyone."

Categories:

Lasting legacy
The first Attracta Doherty Memorial Pink n' Gold Triathlon took place on August 1 in 2010 when over 200 competitors took to the lovely Lough Ramor shores in County Cavan. They included experienced tri-athletes, cyclists, runners and people who just wished to be part of a very special day.
Kevin explains of the ethos: "It was a day established in memory of breast cancer patient Attracta Doherty, a day whereby people had an occasion, to not only challenge themselves, but to acknowledge in a very positive way the challenges families have to face when illness knocks their door. Attracta always said to us 'cancer will not win' and, during that incredibly difficult time, journeying through cancer, Attracta's three sons Mark, Darren, Damien and myself could not understand, or indeed wish to accept the merits of the statement!
"Yes, Attracta's cancer legacy has introduced us all to a world, where illness establishes lasting friendships, whereby strangers today became friends overnight, and thus creates a wonderful conduit through which acceptance, understanding, love, compassion and a desire to help the many who may struggle in life flow."
Organisers will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Pink n' Gold Triathlon co-hosted by DB Cycling & Triathlon Club, Cavankayakarun & Muckno Triathlon Club. It will get underway on Sunday, September 8, and all are encouraged to partcipate at a level they are comfortable with.
