Botched ATM accused remanded in custody
A man, charged in connection with the botched ATM raid in Virginia in August of last year, has been remanded in custody to Castlerea Prison.
Daniel O'Callaghan (31), with an address at Monogue Road, Crossmaglen, Co Armagh, appeared before Virginia District Court this morning. He is charged with attempting to committ theft of an AIB ATM machine at Main Street, Virginia, on August 14, 2019. He is also charged with possession of a stolen yellow Case digger on the same date and place. Mr O'Callaghan is further charged with entering a building as a trespassers - the sauna building lake house, Virginia, on an unknown between August 14 and 17, 2019, with intent to commit an offence or to unlawfully interfere with property.
His defence solicitor said there would be no bail application at this time.
Inspector Valerie Gahan said that there were objections to bail on both the O'Callaghan rules and S2 of the bail act.
Judge Denis McLoughlin said, as there was no application for bail, he was remanding Mr O'Callaghan in custody to appear at Harristown District Court this Friday, January 17.
