Man dies after Monaghan road accident

Gardaí in Monaghan have confirmed that a man has died following a serious road traffic collision that occurred on the N54 between Monaghan and Clones in the townland of Bandrum.

The incident occurred around 4.4 kilometres North of Monaghan Town at approximately 11.15am this morning Saturday, February 29, between an articulated lorry and a male pedestrian (early 20s).

The pedestrian was removed to Tallaght University Hospital wherewhe was initially described as having been in a serious condition.

The driver of the lorry was uninjured.

It brings to three the number of road deaths in the Cavan-Monaghan following a fatal road collision between a car and a jeep at Cashel Cross on the N55 between Ballinagh and Cavan Town yesterday evening, February 28.

An elderly couple died, and the driver of the jeep was taken to hospital for treatment.

Diversions are in place from the Monaghan side of the road traffic collision at Threemilehouse Road R189 diverting to Newbliss, Clones and from Clones side at the Rosslea Road R187 to Sweeney's Cross onto Scotstown to Monaghan.
