Only in Cavan- 'Better than any ratchet'

They say it 'could only happen in Cavan!'. Well how about Belturbet?

Travelling the roads of a rural county, people have often adopted some novel ways of doing things, especially if the weather is bad (it often is) and it means getting the job done that bit quicker.

For instance, how about this enterprising driver:

Even this:

But I doubt anyone has seen anything quite like this, captured on video for all to see and believe on the road out of Belturbet earlier this week.

The footage is of a man lying with all his weight on several sheets of wood loaded onto the back of a trailer.

The weather is bad but the man looks relatively nonplussed as the driver of the van towing the trailer indicates into Centra on Erne Hill. We can only imagine, or at the very least hope, he was doing it to check on the passenger in the back.

The video was shared on Twitter by Belturbet-native and local Rory O'Moore's footballer Conor Vaughan. He wrote under the post: 'Only in Belturbet would you see this going on, better than any ratchet.'
