Message your mum this Mother's Day

In Ireland, we take care for our mammies very seriously.

But with restrictions around social distancing playing havoc, the difficulties that poses are no greater felt that on special occasions such as today, Mother’s Day.

That imposed distance though could not stop one Cavan woman from sending a very special message to her own mum and online.

Sophie Dolan, a student in Sligo IT, got in contact with The Anglo-Celt explaining that due to the ongoing restrictions brought about by the spread of Coronavirus, she was unable to make it home this weekend to see her mother, Martina, this Sunday, March 22.

Martina is a health care worker from Belturbet, and Sophie explains: “I can't go visit her, as any contact with other people would be putting her clients at risk. She is always so giving to everyone else and amid all this is trying to care for her elderly parents, one of which has gone into hospital in recent days, and I just feel it would be nice for her to feel appreciated and recognised.”

Sophie says there are many people across the country in the same position as herself, in particular frontline workers such as nurses, doctors, Gardaí etc.

“I would love to be able to give her a bit of recognition that she deserves,” says Sophie, sharing a sentiment most of us would share about our own mums.
