Emergency PPE air drop at local airfield

An emergency time air drop took place at a Cavan airstrip earlier this afternoon.

Organised by Cú Chulainn Blood Bikes North-East, charity volunteer Jim Smith, flew in two boxes of PPE, including reusable masks, to Sheelin Nursing Home, and coming into shortly before 1.30pm today.

He landed at Sheelin Air Strip in Mountnugent, located just across the round, after special dispensation was granted to allow the fight by the Irish Aviation Authority.

Jim made what would generally have been an hour-and-a-half flight in no more than 23 minutes, taking the route as the crow flies.

Mairead Mellett, proprietor of Sheelin Nursing Home, was on hand to receive the car package.

Mairead thanked the Cú Chulainn Blood Bikes for their generosity.

Cú Chulainn Blood Bikes generally provides a free volunteer service to hospitals in the Health Service Executive (HSE) North Eastern Region in collecting and transporting Blood, Blood Products, Human Tissue, Patient Files/ X – Rays, as well as Infant Milk.

The charity is operated entirely by volunteers and public donations.
