The late Shane Halton.

Cornafean will never forget Shane

On Wednesday last a great sadness was cast over the Communities of Drumcrow and Cornafean and especially Cornafean Football Club on the sudden passing of Shane Halton.
On behalf of Cornafean GFC Committee and Club members we offer our sympathies to all our Ladies and Gents footballers on the tragic loss of their teammate and great friend Shane. Shane was a highly respected young man who was very popular with his many friends. He loved to play football and when he wore the Red jersey he was a fearless and skilful player who gave it his all in his own unique and unassuming style.
Shane started his football at national school and won Cumann na mbunscoil titles with Ballinagh National School. He won medals at U12, U13 and U16 level with his beloved Cornafean Club and it was obvious from an early age with his natural ability and on field maturity he was a player for the future. Shane was also a key member of the very successful Lough Oughter Gaels amalgamation winning an U16 Division 1 Medal with a memorable victory over Drumlane in Breffni Park and narrowly losing an U17 Division 1 Final to Cavan Gaels/Killygarry amalgamation.
We also remember his teammates and mentors from St Patrick's College and Butlersbridge GFC who formed the very successful Cornafean/Butlersbridge amalgamation Lough Oughter Gaels.
Shane's loss to his family is immeasurable but will also be felt keenly by the Cornafean club and his many close friends and teammates who no doubt will keep his memory alive for many years to come.
Shane's Red Jersey adorned his coffin as he went to his final resting place on Sunday morning.
We express our most sincere and deepest sympathy to the Halton and O'Reilly families at this difficult time. To his heartbroken parents John Francis and Therese, sister Rachel, brothers Aodhgan, Cian, Luke, best friend Aine and his many teammates from Cornafean GFC, Lough Oughter Gaels and St. Patrick's College, our community is thinking and praying for you all now and over the coming months.
Due to Covid19 restrictions, Shane's funeral was private to family and took place in St. Felims Church, Ballinagh on Sunday morning last.
Cornafean will never forget Shane...May he rest in peace.
