Mullagh burst water pipe may be fixed tonight

Repair of a burst water pipe in the Mullagh area is "proving difficult", according to Irish Water and Cavan County Council.

The problem is impacting households in Lisnahederna, Crossbane, Killiter, Mullagh Village and surrounding areas that their water supply has been impacted as a result of a burst to a water main.

A joint statement said they hoped that the repairs will be completed by 8pm today, Friday, May 29. However they advised "some customers may not receive a full water supply for a further two to three hours while water returns to the network".

The statement outlined: "Alternative water supplies are available at Crossreagh National School and Mullagh Heritage Centre. While Irish Water makes every effort to ensure that the alternative drinking water supply provided including the tanker/bowser and dispensing tap are adequately disinfected, as a precautionary measure anyone who obtains water from the alternative supply for consumption is advised to boil the water before use.

"Customers using the alternative water supplies are also asked to adhere to social distancing guidelines of two metres as marked out at the tankers.

"Irish Water understands the inconvenience when a burst occurs and thanks customers for their patience while we work to repair the burst and restore normal supply to impacted customers. Our customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1850 278 278 and customers can also contact us on Twitter @IWCare with any queries."
