Killinkere’s Louis raises €4,800 in ‘50k before May’

A Killinkere youngster has run 50 kilometres, in just 13 days before the month of May began, and all in support of frontline healthcare workers.

After raising €4,800 from his efforts, Louis McQuade (10) arrived at Cavan General Hospital at the weekend, as well as Virginia Primary Care and Navan Hospital- to drop off care bags for the staff.

“One very humble young man from Killenkere called Louis McQuade arrived on site yesterday with care bags for our nurses & HCAs,” Cavan nurses posted on Twitter after the drop off last Friday, May 29. “Louis you’re an inspiration to us all and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

He presented the care bags at Cavan General Hospital to Head of Nursing Lynda McGrory, who herself tweeted: “What an interesting wee man I had the pleasure of meeting today.”

Louis was inspired to raise the funds as a number of the young man’s mother’s friends are nursing on the frontline.

A Go Fund Me page with an initial target of just €200 ended up raising €3,980.

“That’s a wrap. All care bags delivered,” Louis’ mum posted on the Go Fund Me page.

The McQuade family also thanked O’Donoghue pharmacy, SuperValu Virginia and Lisgrey House, as well as everyone who donated to the cause.
