Ballymachugh raise €10k for Pieta House

Ballymachugh GAA club ran, walked and cycled for 48 hours, raising €10,000 for Pieta House on the weekend before last.

“It was a proud few days for the club and it was fantastic to see the whole community come together for this great cause,” said Barry Kiernan, who was one of the organisers.

“We all know the great work Pieta House does in this country and their services are needed now more than ever.

“We as a club are hoping to leave a bit of legacy from the weekend and set up a mental health hub in the club. Men and women, both young and old, can suffer from mental health issues sometimes and it's important to do all we can to help one another through these difficult times.

“The weekend itself was a huge success with different individuals in the club setting their own goals across the weekend. A special mention to Sheana Kiernan and Tara Linnane who walked 50km on the Saturday. “

The club rounded the weekend off with our senior men’s team hosting a zoom meeting with Rory O’Connor from 'Rory’s Stories'. Rory does a lot of work with mental health and he discussed with the lads his struggles in the past and the importance of keeping physically as well as mentally fit.

Ballymachugh are delighted to be able to support such a great cause and raise awareness for such an important and relevant issue.
