WATCH: Blackmarket barber 'cleans up' at Killykeen car park
** The Anglo-Celt has been contacted by a man claiming to be the owner of the video. He states he took the video and provided the commentary as a "joke", sending it then to five friends in a WhatsApp group. Two days later his wife received a copy of the video back from friends in Cork. The video, he clarifies is of an entirely innocent couple who had been out walking in the forest park, who then used the outdoors opportunity for an impromptu trim **
A video appearing to show a mobile hairdresser trimming the locks of a man at a renowned local beauty spot has gone viral online.
The 10 second video from Killykeen carpark has been shared widely across social media since first coming to attention earlier this week.
It is not clear who the hairdresser or their supposed customer is.
It is also not known who the person capturing the unusual scene is, however they can be heard saying over the footage: “Mobile hairdressers, below in Killykeen car park. €10 a pop. She's cleaning up boy!”.
The video was clearly taken from inside a car looking on, and it is not known if the phone owner was himself a client waiting to get his hair cut.
Locks down in Lockdown
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said the Government is looking at fast-tracking plans which could see the whole country fully reopened by mid-July.
That would include the reopening of the hairdressers and salons.
Hairdressers and barbers were scheduled to reopen July 20, under what was then the fourth phase of the Government’s plan to ease coronavirus restrictions.
'Certainty' for industry needed
Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan-Monaghan Niamh Smyth says if the reopening date for hair salons and barber shops is to be brought forward, as some media reports have indicated, then guidance on reopening is urgently needed by professionals in the industry.
“There are reports that there may be room for hairdressers and barbers to reopen on June 29th. I know the Irish Hairdressers’ Federation submitted proposals to government and I hope that they are seriously examined. The group have published 100 guidelines which hairdressers and barbers can implement which would allow the safe reopening.”
However, she said that if NPHET and the Government only give the green light for reopening in the next ten days then hairdressers and barbers will have a week at most to implement all measures. “They need more time than this to ensure their salons and shops are set up safely and any required PPE is procured ahead of reopening.
“If reopening is approved this will allow barbers and stylists go back to work, it will bring an economic benefit to our towns and villages and improve the mental health of people who can look forward to a professional haircut, their first since early March.”
