ACFL gets under way at last

The All-County Football Leagues finally threw in today and matches took place all over the county in beautifully sunny conditions.

In Division 1, a late point from Oisin Kiernan saw Castlerahan grab a draw against Crosserlough. First-half goals from Oisin O’Connell and Enda Flanagan gave the champions the upper hand but James Smith hit the net just before half-time and there was little between them after the break.

In Crowe Park, Lacken and Gowna played out a thriller, with Gowna hitting seven goals en route to a three-point win which came at a cost as Conor Madden was removed to hospital with a suspected broken nose.

Conor Smith’s haul of 1-4 in the first half helped Killygarry into a one-goal interval advantage against Kingscourt but the Stars came roaring back and two goals from county star Padraig Faulkner helped them seal the win.

Elsewhere, youngsters Ben Smith and Sean McEvoy found the net for Ramor United as they won by seven points in Cootehill while Gearoid McKiernan had a winning debut for Cavan Gaels as they saw off Ballyhaise.
