Cavan Library has selected a diverse and exciting line-up of authors for the 16th annual Summer Reads list.

Summer Stars at Cavan County Libraries

If you’re looking for some ‘staycation’ page-turners this summer, Cavan County Library Service has you covered, with the latest summer reading list for adults, and Summer Stars, the annual national reading programme for children taking place in libraries throughout the county until the end of August.

A completely free programme, Summer Stars is open to all primary school children, and is designed to encourage and nurture reading skills over the summer.

Children can pick up a Summer Star reading card at their local library to record the books they have read, or they can download one at www.cavanlibrary.ie

Competitions

In support of the programme, Cavan County Library is running three competitions – colouring for 4-6 year olds, colouring for 7-9 year olds and a book quiz for 10-12 year olds. Watch out for ‘Story time by Mags’ for 4-7 year olds every Wednesday at 10am on Facebook; and ‘Chapter readings by Marleen’ every Friday at 10am from our ‘One Book, One Summer’ - ‘Begone the Raggedy Witches’ by award winning local author Celine Kiernan.

The Summer Stars Reading Adventure is also celebrating imagination by running a countrywide short story competition, with great prizes to be won. The title of the short story is ‘An Unexpected Adventure’, and there are three age categories: age 6-9, age 10-14, age 15-18 years. In addition to a Tablet for the winner of each category, Bolinda Publishing will digitally publish the three winning stories on BorrowBox and a professional illustrator will design a book cover for each winning entry. All details are available on www.cavanlibrary.ie or www.summerstars.ie

Not forgetting the grown-up book lovers, Cavan County Library Service has just released the 16th edition of its ‘Summer Reads’ collection!
