Former Cavan–Monaghan TD broke quarantine rules by attending Clifden golf dinner

A former Cavan-Monaghan TD who attended the Oireachtas Golf Society dinner on Wednesday night was in Spain playing golf nine days previously.

Paudge Connolly who served as an Independent TD for the Cavan–Monaghan constituency from 2002 to 2007 and is now a Monaghan County Councillor attended the event, sitting at a table with Senators Jerry Buttimer and John Cummins.

Spain is not on the Government’s green list of countries, meaning people arriving back from there must quarantine for 14 days.

On Friday Cllr Connolly spoke on Northern Sound about attending the Oireachtas Golf Society dinner.

The former Cavan-Monaghan TD apologised for attending the Clifden event when he spoke on The Joe Finnegan Show, however he did not mention that he had been in Spain participating in another golf competition.

Cllr Connolly has been unavailable for comment since it was confirmed he’d been in Alicante eight days previous.
