SFC quarter-final line-ups decided after dramatic day

Cavan Gaels v Ramor the tie of the round

The quarter-final line-up in the Hotel Kilmore Senior Football Championship has been decided after a dramatic afternoon of action.

Table-toppers Kingscourt, who defeated neighbours Shercock, will meet Mullahoran, who scraped into the last eight despite losing to Lavey due to Killygarry only drawing with Lacken.

Crosserlough, who came from eight points down early in the second half to defeat Ramor, will take on Gowna, who drew with champions Castlerahan.

The holders will meet Lavey while, in the tie of the round, Ramor must now take on Cavan Gaels, who ran out easy winners against Laragh United.

On an action-packed afternoon, Killygarry’s stalemate against Lacken was one of the biggest talking points. The Crubany men had been narrowly beaten in their first three matches but a win would still have seen them progress given that Mullahoran lost to Lavey.

However, a goal from Niall McKiernan and a late point from Ray Galligan saw the Celtics snatch a draw at HQ.

In Crosskeys, Ramor were 2-7 to 1-3 up at half-time, with James Brady having registered 1-5 in the opening half and Simon Cadden the other goal, but Crosserlough came roaring back, with Patrick Lynch and James Smith inspiring them to a 3-12 to 3-10 win.

Meanwhile, goals from Sean Johnston and Declan Meehan helped Cavan Gaels see off Laragh by 2-14 to 0-13, with Robert Maloney-Derham also making his return from injury for the Cavan Town side.

Elsewhere, Shane Briody’s late goal proved crucial as Gowna secured a draw against Castlerahan on a 2-11 to 1-14 scoreline, with Cian McCabe and Conor Madden also raising green flags and county player Oisin Pierson notably converting three 45s for Gerry Cadden’s charges.

The quarter-finals will take place next weekend with all games pencilled in for Kingspan Breffni.
