Coronavirus cases hit 900 in Cavan with five reported over the weekend

There were 369 new cases of Coronavirus reported over the weekend to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre, with five of those in County Cavan.

No new COVID-19 related deaths were reported.

Since February 29, there have been 29,672 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland and 1,777 people have lost their lives as a result of the virus.

The five new cases detected in Cavan were reported on Saturday. It brings the total number of confirmed cases in the county to 900.

The last day on which new cases were reported in the Breffni county was August 31 when three additional positive test results were notified.

Almost 69% of the cases notified over the weekend occurred in people under the age of 45 years.

Seven new cases were confirmed in neighbouring County Meath, at least two in Leitrim and at least one each in Longford, Mayo, Meath, Roscommon, and Westmeath.

The exact number is not clear yet as the HSPC only specifies daily numbers above five cases in each county. A detailed county by county breakdown is only up to date as of September 4.

The HSE is working to identify any contacts the patients may have had to provide them with information and advice to prevent further spread.
