Monaghan man gets Green's role on Foreign Affairs

In the 2020 Irish general election, Vincent Martin ran as a candidate for the Green Party in Kildare North, but was not elected.

The Green Party has announced the appointment of new spokespeople, drawn from elected representatives serving at national, European and local level, with Monaghan-native, Senator Vincent P Martin to serve as Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs.

Starting his political career in 1999 as a Town Councillor for Carrickmacross, he later became a member of Monaghan County Council in 2004 as an Independent.

However, in 2009 he stepped away from local politics, but latterly returned when topping the poll in the Naas constituency in the 2019 Kildare County Council election.

In the 2020 Irish general election, he ran as a candidate for the Green Party in Kildare North, but was not elected.

He was later appointed senator after the Green Party entered into government.

His sister is Catherine Martin, Deputy Leader of the Greens, currently serving also as Minister for Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht.
