Pre-qualification for B'boro station confirmed

The Office of Public Works (OPW) will oversee the conversion of the former National Irish Bank building into the new Garda station.

Progress has been made on the project which will see a new Garda Station built in Bailieborough.

The Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Michael McGrath TD has confirmed that pre-qualification procedures for the Main Contractor and Reserved Specialists is completed, and that the tender for the works will go live in the next three weeks.

The development was welcomed by local Fianna Fáil TD Niamh Smyth.

“Bailieborough needs a Garda Station,” said the local Deputy. “This is a project I have been working on since being elected to Dáil Éireann with successive Ministers. I am delighted that my Party colleague, Minister McGrath, has confirmed to me that tender documentation will issue in October.”

She added that the contract for the build will be issued before the end of this year, followed by the construction process which is expected to take 18 months.

The existing building, which is a protected structure, will be refurbished, with a new four storey extension built to the rear to accommodate the new District Headquarters.

The former National Irish Bank in the town was purchased from solicitor Joanne Kangley.
