Mainly dry day but weather to turn more changeable

The weather will remain dry today. The latest weather forecast from Met Éireann says it will be a mostly cloudy start with mist and fog in places, but sunny spells will develop in most areas during the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 15 to 17 degrees with light to moderate southwesterly winds developing.

Cloudy tonight with some patchy light rain or drizzle in western areas. Light to moderate south to southwest winds will freshen later and become strong at times near northwestern coasts. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) will be a cloudy and breezy day. Rain will arrive in western areas later in the morning and will extend eastwards through the afternoon and evening. Southwesterly winds will be mostly moderate to fresh, but will be strong near coasts in the west and north. Winds will veer northwesterly in the west during the evening. Highest temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees.

The national summary is for cool and changeable weather for the rest of the week, with spells of rain and showers but some drier periods too.

Tuesday night: Rain in eastern areas will clear into the Irish Sea on Tuesday night, with clear spells and scattered showers then extending from the west. A cool night with lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees with light to moderate northwesterly winds.

Wednesday will be a cool day with sunny spells and scattered showers, mainly in western areas at first but becoming more widespread later in the day. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees with light to moderate west to northwest winds. On Wednesday evening, winds will back southerly and freshen in the southwest as persistent rain arrives here. This rain is expected to extend northeastwards to most areas on Wednesday night, although Ulster should remain dry. Lowest temperatures on Wednesday night of 4 to 7 degrees.

Outbreaks of rain will continue on Thursday but there will also be some bright or sunny spells at times. Another cool day with highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees, in moderate to fresh winds which will vary in direction. Rain will clear from most areas by Thursday night with clear spells developing.

Friday is looking like a dry day with good spells of sunshine. Remaining quite cool with afternoon temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees, in a light to moderate north to northwest breeze.

Further outlook for the weekend: Remaining unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain, but daytime temperatures returning to near average.
