Mountainlodge, Billis-Lavey Group Water Schemes still on notice

The Do Not Consume’ notices remain in place for both Mountainlodge and Billis-Lavey Group Water Schemes.

Consumers are strongly advised to follow the advice set out in the notice issued to customers of both schemes and to avail of the alternative water sources available at designated locations.

Cavan County Council continues to work closely with both Mountainlodge and Billis-Lavey Group Water Schemes and their key stakeholders to resolve the exceedance issue. Work is ongoing with a view to meeting the required criteria and having the ‘Do Not Consume’ notice lifted.

The Initial test results which prompted 'Do Not Consume' notice for Mountainlodge showed a reading of Aluminium at 560 µg /L and Manganese of 785 µg /L.

The prolonged dry spell at the start of the Summer played a role in raising the levels of Manganese and Aluminium in the supply to the Mountainlodge Group Water Scheme.

Cavan County Council issued the 'Do Not Consume' notice to homes and businesses who subscribe to the Mountainlodge Group Water Scheme. The areas affected are Laragh, Tunnyduff, parts of Poles, and Mountainlodge.

Cavan County Council’s website and social media channels will be updated to remind consumers that the notice remains in effect and have asked both schemes to do the same.

Patrons are advised to use an alternative safe source of drinking water (bottled water) for drinking, preparing drinks made with water, cooking food and for food preparation. The 'Do Not Consume' notice covers brushing of teeth and/or gargling and making ice and people are advised that water from the hot tap of kitchen or bathroom sinks is not safe to drink.

The local authority made water tankers available at Laragh national school and Tunnyduff national school.
