New Kilmore priest to be Ordained

Fr Small is to be the first new priest to be Ordained locally since Laragh native Séan Maguire in June 2012, and eight years before that again, when Fr Ultan McGoohan was ordained (2004).

Fr Thomas Small from Belturbet will today become the first in almost a decade to enter the priesthood in the Diocese of Kilmore when he is formally Ordained later today.

Fr Small is to be the first new priest to be Ordained locally since Laragh native Séan Maguire in June 2012, and eight years before that again, when Fr Ultan McGoohan was ordained (2004).

It is the second Ordination celebration in the Diocese in as many weeks after Bishop Martin Hayes' Episcopal Ordination Mass took place at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick & Saint Felim, Cavan Town, last week.

Fr Small's Ordination will take place at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Belturbet at 3pm.

He will be ordained to the priesthood for service in the Diocese of Kilmore by Bishop Martin Hayes, and will celebrate his first Mass the following day, Monday at 7pm.

Unfortunately, due to current Covid-19 restrictions, attendance at Sunday’s ordination ceremony and the First Mass on Monday evening will be restricted to family and close friends.

“We pray for Thomas as he prepares for this very special day in his life and for his future ministry as a priest in the Diocese of Kilmore,” the Diocesan website notes.
